Cult of the Pink Skull
What was revealed to me was true
Seen in gutter gasps on Confident Street
It was one thing to know - many know so they can not know
And when I saw what I saw, manky and debased, I felt the face of God
And learned those little manky corners - specific places I needed to pole vault to
THAT’S what I got round the salesmen saints, haggling oversized gems above glass
And no amount of subliminal easy listening music will deter me from what jammed my eardrums
The enticing vengeance tickle
And the secret grace that lies within vengeance
The face that flipped over
Hideous as you people
Building me up to resist the probiotic conversion strategies
Bent to lead me astray
I said it was there, and nobody blinked that day
Ameer Azad is our current Poet-in-Residence. Every now and then we find a voice that sings (or screams) to us. Those voices that show us something new - whether beautiful or repulsive - voices from out there that somehow resonate deeply. Voices we just 'get'. When that happens we graciously ask that they join us for a time. To live and scream along with us.
You can learn more about Ameer, his work and voice in his fantastic interview here.
