Poet in Residence - Siobhan Cawson Mooney

Siobhan Cawson-Mooney takes the reigns of the Poetry in Residence mantle from Ameer Azad.

Poet in Residence - Siobhan Cawson Mooney

We are honoured to announce a new 12-week residency of an artist of great power and heartfelt grace.

Siobhan Cawson-Mooney came to us a few months back, out of the blue with an inbound request to review her poetry. We were enamoured, not just with her work but with the clarity and depth of her voice within. Her art spoke to us clearly, and deeply in the recounted details and the emotional truth to her compositions. We interviewed Siobhan for the zine just a few weeks back and now, taking the reins from the amazing Ameer Azad who's residency comes to an end, she carries on the mantle of bringing us a collection of poems.

Over the next twelve weeks, we will be publishing a selection of Siobhan's poetry, curated in collaboration which her. This residency will culminate in the publishing of this collection in a beautiful chapbook, which will be available for purchase through us.

That's the set-up, now let's hear from Siobhan herself...

"The opportunity to be the next Poet-in-Residence for TheNeverZine was a wild surprise! In the last few weeks, something of a maelstrom entered my AuDHD brain, but the theme I returned to over and over again was the concept of ‘home’ - such a small word, laden with intense meaning and emotion and full of possibilities.

“There’s no place like home” Dorothy chants as she clicks the heels of the glittering ruby slippers, willing herself back to the loving arms of Auntie Em and the vast landscape of Kansas. For many, home exists only in the imagination or in intense longing, of being separated from family and homeland described by Goethe’s Mignon who sings: “Kennst’ du das Land, wo die Zitronen blühn?” (do you know the land where the lemon blossoms bloom?).

I think of the powerful stories of diaspora communities from across the globe, the goodbyes never said, the promises to return, the perilous crossings on land and sea, searching for safety, sanctuary and the need to belong.

I hope to bring poetic stories and images from those who are dear to me and those who cannot speak - the internally displaced who intuitively convey their love of place and belonging but know they cannot return. Those who know what it is to have lost all sense of safety internally and had to search to find solid ground again.

I hope to invite joy and purpose into this process through the journey of this residency and transport the reader to other lands where somewhere, hiding, longing finds peace.   - Siobhan Cawson Mooney May 2026

So there we have it! We are really, really excited about this residency - it's going to be a privilege to bring you Siobhan's work and we can't wait to get going.

But before we do, we would also like to take the opportunity to thank the supremely talented Ameer Azad for being our inaugural Poet-in-Residence and for taking us all into his incredible, visceral worlds. It's been an absolute blast, and we can assure you that you have not heard the last from Mr Azad on TheNeverZine, or in TheNeverPress...or anywhere for that matter. He is a titan and he will remain.

And so, the baton is handed over from a mighty one, to another.

Siobhan and TheNeverPress will bring you her work next week, exclusively on TheNeverZine.

We're constantly on the look out for new artists, creatives and initiatives to feature in TheNeverZine - so if you are, or know someone who is going their own way and doing their own thing on their own terms and would be a good fit to feature please smash that button below and get in contact.
