The Compactor

A dogfucker generation

Cortexes of aging chancellors suspended in pickle jars
Floating eyeball blinks out morse code
Recognising a state of two fingers and a rock.
Council estates crawl with bow legged children
Vocal chords eroded by airborne toxins
Setting the trend of hand flapping for communication.
Refugees, drenched and naked, break dance for Guardian journalists on the main deck
Who examine their molars for genetic proof of concept
Forming pressure groups lobbying solely through sex scandals
Tickling your balls with righteous glee.
Revolutionary leaders handpicked by special branch facefuck young graduates
Kneeling in a row on Lincoln’s Inn Fields — Announcing they have saved the world
Unmarked fatigues show up in random time zones, telegram offices overflow with
ticker tape, dropping slogans repeated elsewhere that engulf the palm trees with green fire
As FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS rend the land black.
Hipsters sit in circles thinking till they’re stupid, unable to mask their glee
Challenges to find the most impotent, essays stocked with noble excuses.
All cerebral activity has been decommissioned
Journeying through neural vacuums in the slack jawed abyss
Unknown whose senses they were
Imbibing the sweet cowardice that brings us together
A cowardice that lets us love

Ameer Azad is our current Poet-in-Residence. Every now and then we find a voice that sings (or screams) to us. Those voices that show us something new - whether beautiful or repulsive - voices from out there that somehow resonate deeply. Voices we just 'get'. When that happens we graciously ask that they join us for a time. To live and scream along with us.

You can learn more about Ameer, his work and voice in his fantastic interview here.

We also invite you to follow Ameer on Instagram by hitting the button below.

We're constantly on the look out for new artists, creatives and initiatives to feature in TheNeverZine - so if you are, or know someone who is going their own way and doing their own thing on their own terms and would be a good fit to feature please smash that button below and get in contact. By talking to each other, and sharing our journeys, ideas and insights on creativity, art, mental health and resilience we can all create, share and thrive together. Nice thought that.
