I am The Martian
Past the unseeable colours beyond
It awaits in one pointed concentration
A being separate from meaning, that is, was, and will be, and surpasses such names
On the journey through the prismatic death mirrors, it recognised the fearful apparitions of the self, abandoning all linear notions
Looping back to exude primordial radiance
Staring past dismembered photons into the mouths of black holes
Living as everlasting neon green fire
It does not love or consider, when its denizens arrive they are received
Features relaxed to a starless calm, spying the abyss
The organic blur of five thousand beings, living and dead inform its intention
Coursing to the base of the thumb, pressing upon their heads in anointment and consecration
And though the fingers probe the mind’s grooves, it does not seek
It had destroyed the tentacled cancer suns, lashing their tyrant flares, irradiating the the infinite layers of death
Kneaded in its palm, they were no more than stones
It does not love or consider, spying the abyss
It is the king of mystery
And is closer than you know.
Ameer Azad is our current Poet-in-Residence. Every now and then we find a voice that sings (or screams) to us. Those voices that show us something new - whether beautiful or repulsive - voices from out there that somehow resonate deeply. Voices we just 'get'. When that happens we graciously ask that they join us for a time. To live and scream along with us.
